Flower Care Guide for Your Newly Delivered Flowers

Posted on 09/04/2021

fresh flowers deliveredHaving flowers delivered to your home is a special treat, and we know you want them to last as long as possible. But while florists do their very best to create long-lasting bouquets, there are also a few things you can do to keep your flowers by post looking fresh and attractive for longer.

Below, we share our top tips on caring for your flower delivery once it is in your home.

Watering

Just like us, flowers need water to survive, but also like us, every kind of flower is slightly different, so providing your bouquet with the optimum amount of hydration is essential for long life. Certain flowers such as orchids require very little in the way of water, whereas roses or orchids tend to need much more. Your bouquet will come with watering instructions, so be sure to follow those, as they will have been written by the florist who created your arrangement. However, if you didn’t get instructions, then do some research online to find out just how much to water your flowers.

Food

Even noticed those little packets that come with a bouquet? They normally say ‘flower food’ on them, and most of us ignore this packet and chuck it in the bin along with the wrapping the bouquet arrived in. But, if you want your flowers to look luscious for longer, then keep hold of that little packet and follow its instructions. Most people know that flowers need water and light, but who knew they also needed food? Florists knew, which is why they include those packets with your flower bouquet. A few sprinkling of flower food can do wonders for the longevity of your bouquet, so make sure it gets put somewhere safe and used according to the instructions.

Where you place your flowers is one of the most important decisions you can make in terms of floral care. You probably know that flowers need sunlight to stay healthy, but annoyingly they can also be damaged by too much heat. Certain varieties of flowers much prefer darker and cooler spaces, so be sure to do your research before choosing the spot. The good news, of course, is that flowers look wonderful wherever they are, so it doesn’t matter if you have to pop them in the kitchen, keep them on the dining room table, or even stash them in the bathroom - they will still brighten up any room and bring a smile to your face.

Pruning

Lastly, be sure to snip off any stems that aren’t looking too healthy. It will ensure that those that remain will last much longer. So keep an eye on those droopy ones and snip them asap.
